How Our Triathlon Coaching Works

Step 1 – Initial Consultation: We start with a conversation to understand your background, ability, current training program, and future goals. We also discuss how much time you can dedicate to training each week to ensure your plan fits your schedule. Equipment recommendations, such as power metres for cycling performance tracking and a road bike as a suitable choice for most athletes, especially beginners, are also discussed.

Step 2 – Fitness Assessment: Your coach will review your training history, conduct performance tests to assess your current level of fitness and conditioning, and identify strengths and weaknesses. During this phase, we encourage you to test different nutrition strategies in your training sessions to find what works best for your body on race day.

Step 3 – Personalised Training Plan: We build a bespoke training plan in Training Peaks, structured by week and including detailed training sessions tailored to your needs, lifestyle, and race calendar. Each training session is designed to address all three triathlon disciplines, with a focus on swim and swimming skills. Emphasis is placed on developing good technique for efficiency, speed, and safety, especially in swimming. The plan includes guidance on minimising risk of injury through proper technique and progressive training. For athletes aiming for longer events, ironman training is structured to gradually build endurance and experience. The plan also incorporates nutrition advice and uses training data to further personalise your sessions and optimise your progress.

Step 4 – Ongoing Coaching Support: Your coach will provide ongoing guidance during each session and throughout the training process, monitoring your sessions, give regular feedback, and adjust training as you progress – keeping you motivated, consistent, and moving forward.
